SIBU:
Residents of the 86-door Rumah Catherine Tamoh are praying for the
safety of the eldest son of their Tuai Rumah (chief) on MAS flight MH370
that had gone missing.
Andrew Nari, 49, was chief steward of the
flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which disappeared from the radar
screen in the wee hours of yesterday.
Tuai Rumah Catherine Tamoh
confirmed to reporters at her longhouse, which is located in Bukit Aup,
some 10 minutes’ drive from town, yesterday afternoon that Andrew was
among the 239 people on board.
The mother-of-four, surrounded by
relatives and friends, spoke with calm composure even though she
appeared anxious and worried while waiting for updates on the incident.
The interview was interrupted several times as she attended to incoming calls on her hand phone.
Catherine said she last spoke to Andrew last week. Her eldest son called her regularly to check on her health.
Andrew was born in February 1965 and worked with the airline since September 1989.
“My
son stays in Puchong with his wife (Melanie Antonio Jawi) and two
children (Maira Elizabeth Nari and Malcolm Nari). His daughter is
waiting for her SPM results while his son is in Form Two this year. His
wife is a former air stewardess.
“I am waiting for the latest
update and pray for the safety of my son and all those on board,” she
said, adding she has another son and two daughters.
Declining to comment further, she hoped there would be no speculation on the matter.
According to relatives, she left for Kuala Lumpur shortly after the interview for latest updates on her son.
